Women Artists to Watch | 2026 Exhibition

This exhibition brings together Heidi Fourie, Nthabiseng Boledi Kekana, and Olivia Pintér. Three exceptional South African voices actively shaping the narrative of contemporary art. Following standout presentations at major platforms like RMB Latitudes in Johannesburg and 1:54 New York, this showcase celebrates a sustained trajectory of growth and a growing global appetite for their practices. Through confident mark-making, rich material experimentation, and deeply resonant storytelling, each artist pushes the boundaries of her medium.

At its heart, the exhibition is also a profound celebration of enlightening storytelling, collabotion and the presence of women in the creative space; these works on paper were created at the David Krut Workshop in close, intuitive collaboration with skilled printmakers Kim-Lee Loggenberg, Sarah Judge, and Roxy Kaczmarek, proving that the future of South African contemporary practice is deeply rooted in collaboration, sensitivity, and shared innovation.

Artist Bio

Nthabiseng Boledi Kekana (b.1999) was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. Kekana’s artistic journey began as a child with drawing, later leading her to the National School of the Arts, where she majored in Three-Dimensional Design.  In Late 2023 David Krut, while in London, visited an exhibition titled “Dualities” by Undiscovered Canvas at the Bernard Jacobson Gallery in Mayfair. Nthabiseng’s artwork stood out to David, and he immediately planned to see if she would be available to spend time in the workshop making a body of prints.

Her first foray in printmaking has produced an accomplished body of unique painterly prints – monotypes and a pair of large etchings. Kekana’s work explores femininity and spirituality and is rooted in a profound connection to her heritage. Her exploration is guided by her emotions and spirituality, leading her to examine otherworldly ideas. She works in a range of mediums, including oil, charcoal, pastels and natural fibres, to express the fluidity of creation. Fast forward to March 2024, Nthabiseng spent a week collaborating with Printer Roxy Kaczmarek at the David Krut Workshop (DKW) in Maboneng, Johannesburg.

Artist Bio

Heidi Fourie (b. 1990) is an artist based in Pretoria. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus on painting from the University of Pretoria in 2012, receiving the Bettie Cilliers Barnard Bursary. Her first solo exhibition, titled “Islands,” took place in 2015 at Lizamore & Associates Gallery, supported by mentor Frikkie Eksteen. Since then, she has held numerous solo exhibitions and participated in group shows across South Africa. Fourie has been collaborating with the David Krut Workshop since 2017, creating various watercolour monotypes and other works showcased at art fairs and exhibitions in Johannesburg.

Heidi Fourie has had a notable series of exhibitions and collaborations with David Krut Projects (DKP) over the past few years. In 2021, she showcased her work in a solo exhibition titled “Grass You Can Swim In,” featuring etchings, monotypes, and paintings. In 2022, she participated in a residency at DKP, where she worked on a new series of soft-ground etchings and prepared for her solo exhibition “On Soft Ground.” In early 2023, she collaborated again with DKP to create monotypes for the Latitudes Art Fair. In 2024, her work was included in DKP’s booth at the fair, where she was a featured artist. Her latest exhibition, “Unfurling,” ran from May 25 to July 2024. Fourie is also part of the “South African Artists in New York” initiative, which highlights South African talent at DKP’s New York Gallery.

3_Olivia Pintér

Artist Bio

Olivia Pintér (b. 2000) is a Johannesburg-based artist. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2023. Pintér’s practice centres process-based methodologies that interrogate the affective agencies of abstract painting. She is concerned with painting-in-action. Pintér’s practice explores how a painting may communicate materially, beyond representation. Relationships between image and text are also central to her writing and painting practice, with a focus on how interventions between these two modalities may marry, extend, and limit each other.

Pintér first connected with David Krut Projects in 2024 when she came into the bookstore to redeem a voucher that she had received for her 4th year research paper, making her one of two students to receive the award for Best Fine Arts Written Paper. While browsing the books, she and David began to discuss abstraction and painting, a conversation which culminated in Pintér showing David her work. Later on, David and our director Ame went to visit her studio and later invited her to come into our workshop for a short residency. She accepted the invitation in 2025, where she experimented with creating oil-based monotypes, collaborating with David Krut Workshop printer Roxy Kaczmarek.
